Dell Inspiron 15 7000 (i7559) Review – Gamers’ Delight
Gamers often complain about their laptops not performing up to expectations when they play a resource intensive game. Games today are made with a lot of finesse so they need sufficient storage and also support for high-end graphics. This is why leading laptop maker Dell have introduced a laptop specially geared towards gamers.
Dell Inspiron 15 7000 Series
One of the best selling laptop series from Dell is from its Inspiron series. Over the years there have been multiple models from this series, the latest one being the Inspiron 15 7000. This range has been known to be some of the most elegant looking and great performance laptops from Dell. The latest laptops found today comes with Windows 10, and Dell Inspiron 15 is no exception.
Dell Inspiron 15 has better features than what we had in Dell Inspiron 14. There are differences not just in the key specifications, but also in the minute details. For example in the Photoshop and handbrake test, Inspiron 14 gave a performance of 4:55 and 4:26 respectively, while Inspiron 15 performed notably better at 4:31 and 1:35 respectively.
There are also differences in keyboard backlighting, screen resolution, battery life, and several other technical specs. These specs not only set Inspiron 15 apart from Inspiron 14, but also create a distinction between Dell Inspiron 15 7000 and laptops from other brands. In this guide, we will be discussing more about one particular model from this series which is one of the best mid range gaming laptops in the market today.
Dell Inspiron 15 7000, 7559
The 7559 model from this series is a treat for gamers priced at around $740. Its value proposition in our opinion is that it is considered as the best entry to mid range gaming laptop. However, it can be used for high-end gaming as well. The laptop is equipped with features which allow for a lot more than just entry level gaming. Resource intensive games like Grand Theft Auto V, Fallout 4, Witcher 3, etc are the games we tested on it and can say that they all ran smoothly on this machine.
Older games run flawlessly on the laptop because of the 960 m Graphics chip from NVIDIA that the laptop comes pre-installed with. The chip is not the 2GB one, but the 4GB variant of the same, which allows the user to get the best of the graphics on their screen and experience a truly immersive gaming. The screen size of the laptop adds on to your experience. This laptop has a 15.6 inch screen, which is a good screen size for gaming laptops. Key specifications of the laptop have been discussed in greater detail in the upcoming sections.
Screen: With a 15.6-inch screen, the laptop comes with IPS display and anti-glare coating. The screen resolution is 1920x1080p. Although it is not as high as that of a 4K screen, it is good enough in our opinion. Not to mention, the screen is no ordinary screen; it is a pre-calibrated screen so depending on the ongoing task, you have a lot of flexibility in choosing the screen settings. This will help to increase the battery life and also give you the most suitable display according to the task you are performing.
The different usage scenarios that you can set your screen to include gaming, office work, designing, movie watching, and an additional setting called the anti–blue. This is mainly used when operating the laptop in the dark or for long hours at a time so as to limit the harmful blue light, reducing the strain on the eyes.
Processor: Paired with a 6th generation i5 processor from Intel, it has four cores and clocks at 2.3 Ghz. Apart from an i5 processor, it comes with the NVIDIA Geforce GTX 960 M 4 GB GDDR5 graphics card. Most gaming laptop processors are either i5 or i7. i5 is used more in medium range laptops, whereas i7 is mostly for the higher range. The processor is able to reach around 7500 CPU mark points.
RAM and Storage: An i5 processor is an advanced processor which can process large amounts of data, so the RAM of this laptop is 8 GB DDR SDRAM and comes with a 1 TB storage capacity. Advanced processors are usually accompanied with a greater amount of RAM and storage capacity because they are meant for high-end operations which not only process greater data but also require greater storage space. Dell Inspiron 7559 has a hard disk of 256 GB, and does not support SDD.
Battery Life: Dell Inspiron 15 7000, 7559 uses a 74 Whr battery, which is a 6 cell, non–replaceable battery. This battery lasts for about 4 hours while gaming, and can last up to 10+ hours when used for basic tasks. The battery life in Dell Inspiron 7559 is more than what you get in many other laptops, and this has been proven during multiple battery life tests performed by experts and independent reviewers. Since the battery is non-removable, you cannot pop it out anytime you want to replace it.
Connectivity: The connectivity options in this one are aplenty. You will find two 3.0 USB ports, a headphone jack on the left hand side, a HDMI port, and a 2 in 1 SD card reader. These are more than enough connectivity options and for your convenience, the two USB ports are given on both sides. The wireless connectivity options include Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and hotspot. For connecting through ports, you also have an Ethernet port and a slot for Kensington lock. The company also provides you with a yearlong warranty on the laptop, along with a one-year free subscription on McAfee Life Safe.
Audio: The sound quality of Dell Inspiron 7559 is amazing. It not only has top mounted speakers, but also an undercarriage subwoofer along with a pre–installed Dell Audio software.
Keypad and Touchpad: The keypad of the laptop is a big one, giving you ample scope to freely move your fingers. However, it’s worth noting that the touchpad on the left might bother you. Although the touchpad works fine, we think that it could be designed better. Instead of being in the center, it has been placed on the left, which might create some kind of problems while playing. Dell Inspiron 7559 has a backlit keyboard, which adds to its aesthetics and can allow you to play even in darker environments.
Dell Inspiron 7559 is capable of providing you with the reliability and performance you’d expect. With an i5 6300HQ processor and NVIDIA Geforce GTX 960 M 4 GB GDDR5, it performs well even for resource intensive games. You can use it for your gaming needs with a peace of mind, and also for any other regular stuff you’d do on a laptop.
The i5 processor is accompanied with an 8GB DDR SDRAM, which provides you with the capability to process data up to 8 GB. It also has a generous 1 TB storage space that can allow you to store numerous games along with several other media files. And the best part is, it supports an HDD and not SSD or hybrid disk drive.
Understandably, not everyone likes the design of the laptop (matte black finish, basic design). So if you need some kind of funkiness in the design, you can opt for the Hibiscus Red alternative of the laptop. It has all the similar features apart from the simple black design and can offer you shades of red in multiple areas of the laptop. Other than the design, there’s really not much to complain about. There are sufficient features and it performs well as a gaming laptop. At slightly less than $740, it represents great value under a plain-looking exterior.
You can find other more expensive alternatives to this laptop in the market. A lot of people opt for the Macs, but from a purely practical perspective, laptops from Dell Inspiron (and other brands) can offer very similar features at a lower price.
Lastly, this laptop comes with a great battery life. In our research, we found that different users have come up with differing battery lives and some of them have gone to the extent of claiming it to be 15 hours (12-13 hours max for us); which is a lot more than what you experience in many other laptops in the market. Dell Inspiron 7559 is a good buy for a lot of reasons, so it’s definitely worth considering.
